We had our first – hopefully of many – plein air outing for the year, once again organised by Sonja Frenz.
It was wonderful to get together again and the Montebello art centre is one of our favourite places to meet, with its interesting and varied choice of subject matter and its many places to settle oneself.
The atmosphere is conducive to creativity, with the busy studios all around and we had the added bonus of a group of youngsters playing marimbas for background music.
It was a warm and wind-free day and very peaceful in the shade of the Greenhouse Nursery garden, where most of us chose to sit. Thanks Sonja, for a lovely start to our plein air calendar.
Once again, if anyone wants to be a part of the plein air group, please email Sonja – email@example.com
The Montebello plein air outing was so popular, there were several requests from members to have another just like it, so Sonja Frenz organised a return visit on Wednesday 4 March.
It really is a beautiful setting, with so much to offer and everyone enjoyed their time drawing and painting in these lovely, peaceful surroundings.
Most people worked in watercolour, or did pencil sketches, but Christine used oils and created a very lovely painting. In her own words “Not only was it a great painting morning, but I also now have many helpful gardening tips and beautiful plants! Thank you Sonja for organising it all…”
Sonja plans to organise many more outings for us, usually on a Mon or Wed – occasionally on a Friday or Saturday – the next of which will be on Monday 6 April, to Maiden’s Cove. CAS members have also been invited, so we should be a nice big group.
If anyone is interested in joining the whatsapp group, so as to receive notifications regarding the plein air outings, please contact Sonja on 083 631 3476 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
On Wednesday 19 February, Sonja Frenz took a group of artists to the Montebello Art and Design Centre in Newlands for a wonderful plein air experience.
Mostly, working in watercolour, some of the group started off in the Greenhouse Nursery – an enchanting and very peaceful place to sit and sketch, while others sat in the shade of the big trees at the coffee shop. It was a very hot day, so finding a shady spot in which to work was essential.
The centre has a diverse selection of beautiful scenes to offer – so much to see and capture on paper – and we’ll definitely be going back there. The next visit will be on Wednesday, March the 4th
Sonja has, very generously, agreed to lead the plein air outings till the end of the year, so if any members would like to join/rejoin the group, please whatsapp Sonja on 0836313476.
We can look forward to another marvelous year of painting en plein air.
