Inge Semple
Inge Semple is an award winning, Cape Town based artist, who is a descendant of the earliest pioneers who inhabited the Cape. Her work is deeply rooted to the land. She lived in an old thatched forestry cottage in Tokai for 21 years which led her to document lesser known Cape fauna around her. She has the capacity to paint tiny details as well as impressions, and enjoys plein air painting.
Her influences can be traced to many happy hours drawing with her father, as well as studying under Paul Emsley and Ellalou O’ Meara in 1982-85 at Stellenbosch University where she also made many copies of the great masters. Modern masters who inspire her include Makoto Fujimura, Chien Chung Wei, Alvaro Castagnet, Carlo Russo, David Kassan and Vivian van der Merwe.
