At its core, life drawing sessions center around the observation and rendering of the human figure. Artists gather to capture the nuances of the human body before them. The direct observation of a model provides a three-dimensional understanding of the body’s structure, proportions, and muscle movement.
We had the first of this season’s life drawing sessions on Saturday at the Duminy Hall. It was freezing cold, but great to be back. Luckily for our model we had good heaters! Kitty’s poses were, as always, lovely. She knows how to make herself interesting to draw from whichever side we happen to be sitting. If anyone still wants to sign up for the rest of the life drawing mornings, please email Louise – secretary@sasa-artists.co.za
Thanks to Audrey and Avril for organising it for us.
P.S. By the way……Kitty has a few sketches done by Ryno Swart during her time modeling for him. If anyone would like to purchase some of them – see first pic in this post – please reply with your contact details in the comments and I’ll forward to Kitty.
Our second life drawing session was on Saturday 15 June at the Duminy Hall. With the wonderful Desiré as our model, it was always going to be a good one! Desiré is absolutely professional, her poses are exciting and she interacts with all the “drawers”, making everyone feel very comfortable. Some very inspired and inspiring work was produced…we could’ve gone on drawing and painting all day if we’d had the time. Thanks to all who made it happen. Looking forward to the next one.
Life drawing Saturday number three….we had a lovely new (for us) model, Frankie who was recommended by Kitty. She was really good to sketch, sitting absolutely motionless for as long as she was asked and getting herself into positions that looked comfortable, but often proved quite challenging to draw. Foreshortening – love it or hate it, it’s a huge part of life drawing and reminds us to draw what we see and not what we think we know! A very satisfying morning once again. Thanks Auds and Avril for making it happen.
We had the fourth of this season’s life drawing sessions on Saturday – only one more to go…..we’re going to miss it. The fabulous Kitty was our model for the morning – by the way, she still has some Ryno Swarts sketches to sell if anyone is interested. We started off with very quick one minute poses, which really got our heads and hands into gear and built up to longer poses at the end. Such a lovely way to spend a winter’s morning, totally present and focused…almost like meditation, with the bonus of having created something beautiful by the end of it. Thanks to all the members who joined us and especially Audrey and Avril for all your hard work. You are appreciated.
