SASA’s End of Year Function

On Thursday 28 November, we held our final members’ meeting for 2019 at the Athenaeum. As is our tradition, this is also when we award the Eleanor Palmer Trophy, for the work voted “best” by the members present on the evening. The entries are the artists’ own choice – any medium, any subject – the only stipulation being that you have to be there to win the prize.

It was a lovely, happy gathering, with drinks and snacks in abundance – thanks to all those who brought a plateful – and we all enjoyed socialising with fellow SASA members, while perusing the beautiful works of art entered in the competition.

While the “officials” counted the votes, the rest of us were entertained by a “quiz-with-a-twist” – a game of bingo, with answers to art-related questions instead of numbers being required to populate our cards.

There were some very close scores, but the final winners were…..in third place, Sonja Frenz, second was Laura Wenman and in first place and winner of the trophy, was Elize Bezuidenhout, with her beautiful portrait “Vyfster”. Well done to all of you.

November SASA Members’ Meeting

On Thursday 24 November, we had our final members’ meeting for 2016 and the annual Eleanor Palmer competition.

The hall at the Athenaeum was full and the mood merry. Plenty to eat and drink and much happy conversation had the room buzzing. Thanks to everyone who brought a plate-full of snacks to share.

Christine Cherry-Jones once more compiled an interesting art quiz to tax our brains – with sometimes hilarious results – and add another dimension to a fun end of year function. Thank you Christine and to your able assistant, Wyn Rossouw, who did a lot of running around during question time.

There were many wonderful works entered, making for difficult decisions, but once the votes were counted, we had three very deserving winners. Wyn Rossouw, Elize Bezuidenhout and in first place, Karen Burns, who took home the trophy for her gorgeous still-life. Well done ladies!

It’s been a great year. Let’s hope the next is just as good. Happy Holidays everyone!

Eleanor Palmer Evening

Our last meeting of the year combines a get together with our annual Eleanor Palmer competition.
A total of 51 artists brought work to be voted for by their fellow artists and members.  It was a festive evening with lots of wine and even more eats, and the art on display was of an incredible standard which made the voting process even harder!  But in the end, a winner can always be found, and this year Grazyna Janik won first honours with her superb painting, Winter Calm.
Runner up was Laura Wenman with ‘Renee’ and in third place, Peter Nicolle with ‘Christelle’.

Well done to everyone who took part.

Our 1st prize Winner – Grazyna Janik
